Just like how Google became a search engine and then to a Internet provider and Operating System. The reason I titled this post 'Chatopoly' is because eventually there will be one major video-chat service controlling everything. But as you can see, aside from the advertisements on tinychat, this is a way to increase revenue for many purposes, growth and maintenance being the top two.

To allow people to see your room easier, you have the option of paying $5.00 to have your tinychat room on the top left page on tinychat's homepage.

There were no more 'followers', the chat-box size changed, and a new Promotion feature was implemented. But until just last year, a lot of minor changes took place. Since my first days on tinychat since 2010, the core of the site for the most part has largely remained the same. But a lot of people at first went to tinychat (as did I around the time of stickams shutdown). It just didn't have the same feel it did when it first began.Įver since stickam shut down, a lot of users had to migrate to other video-chat sites. Eventually, the site was plastered with advertisements, the lay-out had changed dramatically and their traffic declined as well. Stickam had chatrooms along with stand-alone 'live' rooms which had a main broadcaster and about 6 guest cams, along with regular chatters of course. I think for most, stickam was probably the first competitor in the video-chat platform. Some of you may remember another famous chat-service known as stickam which launched in 2005 and closed down in 2013. There can be many reasons for doing this, but at the end of the day it's really not the users who have a say in any of this, and they are what compromise a chat services entire foundation. After sifting through my twitter feeds, I found an article that discusses a recent buyout of the chat service I've been using since 2010, which you can find here: my understanding, Paltalk has bought the Tinychat plaform and will eventually merge both together into one service. Even on, each room had a certain amount of 'followers' and a little widget that acted as 'popularity-meter' (which I can't seem to find anymore).Īs you know from my first blog, I only want to write about things that I find to be interesting or relevant to me as a NEET. And more recently, you saw things like the number of 'friends' you could accumulate on Facebook. You had that with Myspace with Friends and the 'Top 8' or 'Top 10'. Like many other video sharing related sites, it records data such as the amount of subscribers and the amount of views on any particular video. Many of you (I assume) are familiar with . Now if we step out of the real world and into the Internet domain, 'popular' also seems to carry the same weight if not more. Popular kids were always 'cool', Pop-music is liked and tends to reflect on what is currently 'popular'. Going forth, the idea behind popularity is that the word is most often associated warmly and positively. Any of you who grew up in the United States and attended high schools are probably familiar with the term, the "popular kids." You know those students in your grade who knew almost everyone, the ones who were always gossiped about in the locker bay or social media for that matter (During my high school term, xanga, myspace, and AOL Instant Messenger were the most 'popular' mediums). Without even looking up the word in a dictionary, many of us can generally describe or define what the word "popular" means. You probably know the word from other phrases such as, "pop-stars, pop-icons, pop-music", which in short stand for Popular Stars, Popular Icons, and Popular Music. The idea is really new to none, but I want to briefly discuss and perhaps in future posts expand on the idea of popularity. So today I thought I'd talk about something that has been on my mind for a while. Good afternoon *bloggers*, (3:12pm EST at the time I wrote this post lol)
